Mrs. Cynthia Isabelle Stapleton was born on March 17, 1853 at Breckenridge, Missouri and died at her home southeast of this city (Garden City) on March 4, 1923 suffering with pneumonia, following an attack of the flu. At the time of her death she was 69 years, 11 months and 21 days of age. On July 3 (5th), 1870 she was united in marriage to J. B. Stapleton, who died October 22, 1910. Mrs. Stapleton was the mother of seven children, one of them Perry R. died in infancy and Willard A. died in this city on December 19, 1912.

The family emigrated to this county in 1886 and proved up on a homestead and the five living children grew to manhood and womanhood in this vicinity. Mrs. Stapleton became converted and joined the Christian church when she was 15 years old and lived a Christian life until her death. She was a kind neighbor, good friend and citizen and loved for her children.

She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Lou Sarver and Mrs. Lillie Higgins of Stafford, Kansas and Mrs. Sadie Ferris of Blanca, Colorado, and two sons, Orville and Willard Stapleton of Garden City, besides a host of friends.

The funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon at the Christian church in this city with Rev. A. C. Leonard in charge. Interment was made in Valley View Cemetery.
