Barbara Amick Thomason, 80, of Charleston, South Carolina, wife of William Bonner Thomason, MD entered into eternal rest Thursday, July 19, 2018. The family will receive friends Sunday, July 22, 2018 in the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel, 232 Calhoun Street from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Her Funeral Service will be held Monday, July 23, 2018 in First (Scots) Presbyterian Church, 53 Meeting Street at 11:00 a.m. A reception will follow immediately in the church's Fellowship Hall. Burial will be in York, SC at Beth Shiloh Presbyterian Churchyard at the family plot at 1:00 p.m. on July 25, 2018 with a reception at the Thomason family home afterward.
Barbara was born September 26, 1937 in Newberry, South Carolina, daughter of Orin Amick and Gwenn Weed Amick. She graduated from Newberry High School and then Winthrop College with a BS degree. Her major was business and economics. She was a drum majorette for the Winthrop Marching Band. She moved to Charleston and taught at Garrett High School for five years. Barbara Married William Bonner Thomason, M.D. on June 4, 1961. She moved with him while he completed his residence in Urology and during military service obligations. After returning to Charleston, she became a registered City Tour Guide and held this position for 25 years. She was a member of the Women's Council at the Gibbs Museum of Art and also Garden Club of Charleston for 26 years. She conducted several pet shows for the YWCA. She had one cat and one dog win first place (she was not a judge).
Barbara was married to her husband for 57 years. They have two children together, a son, William (Lanier) Bonner Thomason, Jr., an art teacher at Charlotte Latin School in Charlotte, NC and a daughter, Lena (Adi) Elizabeth Thomason Das of Las Vegas, NV. Lena is a Regional Manager at Acosta Sales and Marketing, a company that merchandises both electronics and groceries in Walmarts across the US. Lena manages 24 managers from California to Illinois. She has three grandchildren, Frances Harvey Thomason, former student at the college of Charleston, Sidney Lanier Love Thomason, student at Clemson University, and William "Wills" Bonner Thomason, III, student at Charlotte Latin School.
Barbara enjoyed animals, antiques and traveling. She was a member of First (Scots) Presbyterian Church where she also served as a Sunday school teacher.
