Funeral Services for Joseph Alfred Barron, age 90 of Tyler, Texas, are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 20, 2018 at the New Harmony Baptist Church with grandson, Wade Aaron and Dr. Mike Smith officiating. Interment will follow at the New Harmony Cemetery under the direction of Caudle-Rutledge-Daugherty Funeral Home in Lindale, Texas.

Joe passed away Monday, July 16, 2018 in Tyler, Texas. He was born March 15, 1928, in the New Harmony Community of Smith County, Texas, to the late Coke Franklin and Annie Cleo (Moore) Barron.

Joe was a farmer growing cotton and later roses. He graduated from Tyler High School before there was a John Tyler or Robert E. Lee. He joined the Army by the insistence of his friends and neighbors and was sent to Japan for the occupation during Korean War, where he served in the artillery. After he discharged from the Army he went went to Tyler Junior College where he received an Associate Degree and started back growing roses and driving a school bus.

In1957 he went to work for the Tyler Police Department where he would stay for 32 years. During his service he had many hazards and moments. Up to the very day he retired as a Master Patrolman he never fired his weapon. His demeanor was such that many pondered why they said “thank you” after receiving a speeding ticket from him.

Joe was a life long member of New Harmony Baptist Church. He was an inspiration to many.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Betty Gene Barron in 2008; brother, Alton Ray Barron; sister, Ruth Ferrell; daughter-in-law, Sandy Barron.

Joe is survived by two sons, Joe Barron and wife, Virginia of Tyler, Texas and Mark Barron of Chapel Hill, Texas; daughter, Martha Barron Aaron and husband, Dennis of New Harmony, Texas; grandchildren, Melissa Barron Navarro and husband, Jesse of Red Springs, Texas, Sabrina Barron Alvey and husband, David of Lindale, Texas, Jena Jett and husband, Michael of Red Springs, Texas, William “Dub” Bryant and wife, Brandy of Tyler, Texas, Clay Barron and wife, Krystal of Whitehouse, Texas, Erica Aaron Smith of Jacksonville, Texas, Wade Aaron and wife Hannah of Lewisville, Texas; 10 great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren.

Family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, July 19, 2018 at Caudle-Rutledge-Daugherty Funeral Home in Lindale, Texas.
