When Troop A was reorganized into Squadron A, February 5, 1895, he was assigned to Troop 1, Squadron A. He was discharged from Squadron A in 1897.
Commissioned, 1st Lieutenant, Infantry, May 2, 1898, assigned to the 12th NY Infantry Regiment. The 12th NY Volunteer Infantry mustered in for Spanish American War service, May 13, 1898. He served as the Quartermaster and Adjutant till his discharged, October 28, 1898.
His nephew John Cheever Cowdin was a member of Squadron A, 1908 - 1909.
