Effie Pearl Louise (Cox) McCollum passed away peacefully at her son Donald’s home in Webb City, Missouri, on July 16, 2018. The eldest daughter of Lewis Gilbert and Mammie Bell (Echols) Cox was born on September 8, 1924 in Kansas City, Missouri. She then attended the Independence school district. Shortly after completing her education, Effie married John McCollum on July 13, 1959 in Miami, Oklahoma. They raised three children: Patricia, Marty and Donald. The couple later moved to Rockville, Missouri in 1977 where she was a homemaker and also worked at Ellet Hospital as a housekeeper.
Apart from her career, the great pleasure of Effie’s life was her family. She cherished times spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. A long time active member of Rockville Baptist Church, she remained a devoted Christian throughout her life later attending Life Church in Carthage, Missouri. Effie was a selfless person that sacrificed greatly for the benefit of others. She had an incredible spirit that gave strength to her entire family. Effie further enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, especially in coastal areas, where she loved sitting on the beach and watching the tide roll in. She will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and all that had the pleasure of knowing her.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Lewis and Mammie Cox; her husband, John McCollum; four brothers, Bobby, Abe, Norman, and Joe Cox; and one sister, Stella Cox.
Effie is survived by her daughter, Patty Moffett and husband Bud, sons: Marty McCollum and wife Joyce, Donald Riley and wife Judy; grandchildren: Jerry Barnum, Deborah Winans and husband Ray, Melissa Chambers and husband Cody, Richard Moffett and wife Jess Lea, Keith Martin and wife Stacia, James Moffett, Andrew McCollum, Grant McCollum and wife Kim. Great-grandchildren: Ray Winans Jr., Tristan Winans, Ryan Chambers, Katelyn and Angel Buhlinger, Quentin and Jesse Winans, Alan John, Levi, and Kayson Barnum, Bradon Moffet, McKayla Martin, John Martin, along with many nieces, nephews, awesome church family, and many great friends. She will be deeply missed by all that loved her.
