Alice, age 37, was the daughter of William Thomas and Eleanor Maria Turner "Nellie" (Ardley) Blenkarn; born in St. Lawrence, Reading, England. She had 5 sisters and 3 brothers.

According to "Blenkarn Tapestry" by Dorothy L. Taylor pg. 85: "I know very little about Alice May Blenkarn. She never married, and she died at the age of 37, while visiting her sister Lillian. She had a ruptured appendix."

The following verse was written for Alice May when she was born by her Uncle Dan Ardley:
'ALICE MAY
Yes Alice May is a little child
Her age is by minutes told.
She comes like the blush of morning dew,
The modern house and the ancient one
Grown grey in all kinds of weather.
Have gathered the raiment of gladness
And seem to rejoice together.
So was it ever and must be so,
'Tis nature, and we are led as much
To smile on a life that's new,
As to weep o'er a sister dead.
So is it ever, and yet there seems
Mid the beauty, a chasten'd shade
For the sun never shone on our days or dreams,
But some measure of shadow it made
And there is a shadow on this bright hour,
A streak of the mystic hue.
A shadow that trembles behind the flower,
A cloud in the upper blue.
For Alice May is a little child,
Her age is by minutes told.
The giant tombs of the pharaohs piled,
Once young are now bleache'd and old,
But minutes with Alice May will grow,
into years and each year become.
In age as the tiniest streams that flow,
With a soft and silvery hew.
Born as a river and the river a sea,
Of Alps on a liquid plain
Yet the ocean is less of a mystery
It reverts to the streamlet again.
But ages that grow out of minutes expand,
Beyond our conception they reach,
The boundless, hence life is a grand
An infinite treasure to each.
And Alice May is immortal tho young,
With a mind and a heart as yet,
Like a poets song that hath not been sung,
Is a friend that one has not met.
And fair would I pray for that mind to be,
AS beautiful true and strong,
As the finest flow of music,
That passed o'er a poets tongue.
And fair would I pray for that heart to prove,
To the light winged maid a friend,
For feeling, of thought, and wisdom, and love
shall find it most blessed to blend.'
