Actor. He was best known to television viewers as 'Erik Hunter' on the NBC western series "Laredo" from 1966 to 1967. He left his native Holland to come to the United States to first study at the University of Rochester, and then at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York. He made his television debut in 1965 on the television series "Flipper" and then signed a contract with Universal. Besides "Laredo", he went on to appear on such television series as "Daniel Boone", "The F.B.I.", "Dan August", "Bewitched", "Mary Tyler Moore" and "McMillan & Wife." He also made his "big screen" debut in 1965 in the film "Juliet of the Spirits." He went on to appear in such films as "Beau Geste" (1966), "Tobruk" (1967), "Kemek" (1970), and "Interval" (1973). His last acting appearance came in the 1975 CBS telefilm "The Legendary Curse of the Hope Diamond." He retired from acting after marrying actress Merle Oberon in 1975. They remained married until her passing in 1979. He later was the companion to actress Audrey Hepburn and also dated actress Leslie Caron.
