Daniel Patrick Mahoney was born July 6, 1951 in Burbank, Calif.

"Big" Dan attended Venice High School before being ordered by the judge to join the Marine Corp. Dan reported for duty on March 17, 1969 and during his three years of service, spent 11 months and 28 days overseas as an Amtrac crewman. He returned to the States as an instructor before being honorably discharged on March 16, 1972 with a National Defense Service Medal.

During his time in the service, Dan had two children, Tanzi and Danny. During this time of raising his family, he worked as a manager for a newspaper before choosing his career as a truck driver.

In 1975 Dan bought his first Harley, a 1953 Pan Head. This began a life long passion for a lifestyle he endured through the craziest times of his life. In 1987 "Big" Dan moved to Mojave, where he lived when he hit a big jackpot in Las Vegas. In true biker style, he took his winnings and bought a 1982 Shovel head.

It was on the Shovel, during one of the many Hell Raising nights at the Trap in Lancaster, that Jaque said she latched on to him and she wasn't letting go. Dan said she was like a kitten, once you feed her she never leaves. So began a love that led them to getting married in Bullhead City on March 2, 1996.

Dan and Jaque bought a home and moved to Tehachapi in 1997. During the next years, a week didn't go by without Big Dan challenging someone to drink Long Islands. Domingo's will never be the same. Though they are sure to save money on broken glasses.

August of 2005 he bought his first new Harley, a 2006 street glide. Dan smiled like a child at Christmas every time he threw his leg over his new love. In the last year and a half you could see the pride in his eyes when he showed pictures and talked of his grandchildren and especially, after a long separation, meeting his Dad.

A memorial service was held Friday, March 30 at 1 p.m. at Wood Family Funeral Service with a celebration of life following at the VFW Hall. Wood Family Funeral Service, Inc. handled the arrangements.
