His obituary:

A. S. Loy

A very sad death was a that of A. S. Loy, of this city, which occurred at the home on North Banker St., at 4:45 p.m. on New Years Day.

Sad, not because of the hesitancy or dread of the patient one who was thus called as the New Year came with hope and promise and new opportunity for activity and usefulness to so many, but sad because of the long, patient, hopeful struggle to live ending in a victory for the grim reaper. Death came after a gradual decline of more than a year of troubles with puzzled and baffled the science and skill of some of the best physicians of the country. Just a year ago the Mayo Bros., of Rochester, Minn., operated, opening the stomach and for a few months it was thought a complete recovery would result, but the relief was only temporary. At no time did Mr. Loy suffer much pain. He just wasted away, apparently dying for lack of nutrition. He ate heartily but received no strength from his food.

While his death was unexpected by his family and friends, of this city, it was not thought that he would die so soon.

Deceased was 53 years old last April. He was born in Watson township, taught school and afterwards studied law under Wood Bros. and later G. F. Taylor of this city. He has practiced law here for about 20 years during which time he established a good business, especially in loans and collections. In all of his dealings he was scrupulously honest and prompt in serving his clients. Nov. 1901 he married Miss Belle Brockette, of Mason, who survives him.

Besides his faithful companion the following brothers and sisters are living: Will A. and Calvin C., of Effingham; Edward, somewhere in the southwest, probably Mexico; Mrs. Anna Bracken, Los Angeles, Cal., and Mrs. Carrie Murphy, of Arizona.

The deceased was a member of Modern America and Ben Hur fraternal and insurance orders of this city.

Funeral arrangements have not been made but will be announced in Saturday's Record. Burial will be made in the city cemetery.
