Born in Boston, Edwin was raised in Mattapan and educated in Boston schools.
He entered the Navy from high school, serving his country proudly during World War II.
He was employed for many years by Boston Gas Co. He was an avid golfer and bowler and loved to play his harmonica and ukulele. He was also a former member of the Cape Cod Mens Club.

He was the beloved husband of the late Rita E. (McNamara)
and the devoted father of Michael J. and his wife, Karen of Kingston and John E. Agnew of Weymouth, Mary Patricia Freitas and her husband, Stephen of Kingston, Barbara A. Moore of Milton and Jeanne Murphy of Braintree and her friend Bill Gravina.
Brother of Paul Agnew and his wife, Helen of Braintree and the late Gerald and James Agnew, Jeanne Ryan, Kathleen Parr and Mary Patricia Doyle. Loving grandfather of Michael, Daniel, Jennifer, Patrick, Andrew, Christopher, Julia, Tyler, Ryan, Brandon, Matthew and Brendan and 1 great-granddaughter. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Burial in Milton Cemetery.
