Lojz passed away peacefully with his devoted family by his side, after an exhaustive but admirable 27 year battle with Parkinson's Disease. Lojz was just shy of his 70th birthday.

Lojz will be forever loved by Norma (née Aesie), his wife of forty-six years, two daughters: Serena (Malcolm Holbrook) and Leanne (Robert Furlan) and four grandchildren: Stephen and Melissa Holbrook, Isabella and Dante Furlan, two brothers: Emil (Almira) and Mirko (Anna) of Calgary, a sister Maria (Kristjan) in Slovenia and a very large, loving family. Lojz was predeceased by his only son Brian in 1992 and brother Tony (Anton) in 1975.

Lojz was born in Barka, Yugoslavia and escaped to Italy at the age of nineteen where he lived in a refugee camp for one year before arriving in Canada in 1953. He laboured on a farm and later with N.Y. Construction before co-founding Pockar Bros. Masonry with Tony in 1956. Among his many business interests with the Pockar Group of Companies were Pockar Industrial Park, and a source of great personal enjoyment, Pockar Ranches, his cow/calf operation near Sundre, AB. Lojz was passionate about his work, sports, bocce, cards and especially his grandchildren.

Funeral Mass celebrated at the Canadian Martyrs Catholic Church (835 Northmount Drive N.W.) on October 10, 2003.

From obituary published in the Calgary Herald 10/08/2003 - 10/10/2003.
