Obituary for Bobby Joe Baker

Funeral services for Oilton resident, Bobby Joe Baker, were held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 12, 2016 in the Drumright River of Life Christian Center with Rev. Kevin Vogele officiating. Interment followed in the Jennings Cemetery at Jennings, OK. Military funeral honors were conducted by the United States Marine Corps Funeral services were entrusted to the care of Michael’s Funeral Home of Drumright.

Bobby Joe Baker was born in Jennings, Oklahoma on January 10, 1933 to the late Cyrus Elmer Baker & Myrtle Lee (Stout) Baker. He passed from this life at his residence in Oilton on May 9, 2016 at the age of 83 years, 3 months, & 29 days. Bobby was raised & educated in Jennings & was a 1953 graduate of Jennings High School. He had worked in the oil fields before joining the United States Marine Corps & was honorably discharged in 1961. He married Jewel Marie Baker on May 3, 1958 in Silver City & they made their home in Oilton ever since. Bobby had worked as a bus driver for Olive & Oilton schools for 20+ years. He enjoyed baking, which was evident by the countless cinnamon rolls he & his wife made over the years and always claimed he was the “chief bottle washer”. He enjoyed spending time in Branson, Missouri, working on lawn mowers, & loved to tinker with things. He was a longtime member of the River of Life Christian Center, serving on the board for many years, & enjoyed doing whatever he could to help out someone in need. The time he spent with his friends & family will be missed. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 SISTERS: Ruby Floyd & Pearl Meadors.

His remaining family includes his WIFE: Jewel Baker of Oilton; CHILDREN: Kelvin Joe Baker of Oilton – Brenda Stokes & husband Steve of Drumright; GRANDCHILDREN: Kelvin Baker – Brent & Alicia Dinwiddie – Chantae Trollinger – Curtis Trollinger; GREAT Grandchildren – Emma Baker – Austin & Allyson Dinwiddie – Briley, Justice, & Serenity Trollinger; 1 BROTHER: Cyrus Rink Baker of New Mexico: a SISTER: Nellie Floyd of Jennings; also numerous Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, other relatives, and friends.
