SUNSET ~ Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at a 2:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. John Berchmans Catholic Church in Cankton for Shirley B. Godeaux, age 74, the former Shirley Bearb, who passed away Monday, July 9, 2018 at Opelousas General Health System in Opelousas.
Interment will be in St. John Berchmans Cemetery in Cankton. The Rev. Gary Schexnayder will officiate at the services.
Musical selections will be provided by Valerie Andrus. The songs will be J'Irai La Voir Un Jour, Ave Maria, How Great Thou Art, and Go Rest High On That Mountain.
Mrs. Godeaux was a native of Church Point and a resident of Sunset. She loved dancing, especially to Cajun music, enjoyed fishing and working with plants, and absolutely adored her grandchildren.
Survivors include two daughters, Christine Hargroder and her husband, Dr. Ty Hargroder, Sr., of Opelousas and Sheila Veillon and her husband, Shane, of Carencro; eight grandchildren, Chelsea Begnaud, Kyle Begnaud and his wife, Ashley, Colt Cahanin, Ty Hargroder, Jr. and his wife, Alison, Ashley Hargroder, Shelley Hargroder and Andrew Smith, William Veillon and Alan Veillon; one great grandson, Jayden Wilkerson; one brother, Preston Bearb; and her best friend of many years, Mott Olivier.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph "Buddy" Godeaux; her parents, Zephrine Bearb and the former Ezola Hebert; two brothers, Laurice Bearb and Osten Bearb; and two sisters, Naomi Deranger and Emma Lou Bourque.
Pallbearers will be Kyle Begnaud, Colt Cahanin, Ty Hargroder, Jr., Alan Veillon, Bryan Bourque and Marty Dugas.
