Joanne passed away on Sunday, February 21, 2016 at her home.
She was born in Williston on May 4, 1934, a daughter of the late John Cecil Folk Sr. and Lois Hodges Folk and was married to the late Leo Barker of Rome, Ga. Joanne was a 1952 graduate of Williston-Elko High School and a 1956 graduate of the University of South Carolina, Columbia where she was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi Social Society. Joanne loved teaching, for 34 years, where she taught in the Aiken, Allendale, Anderson and Barnwell county area school systems. Joanne was a bridge enthusiast who enjoyed playing and teaching others; through the years she has been a member of a number of bridge clubs. She formerly taught Sunday school and was the assistant organist in Allendale and Anderson. She was a member of the Williston Presbyterian Church where she was a member of the Women's Circle.
Survivors include her daughter, Donna N. Godbee (Dennis) of Aiken, a son, Henry Neal (Heather) Chambers Jr. of Barnwell; sister, Joyce F. Hollingsworth of Rome, Ga.; brother, John Cecil Folk Jr. of McCormick; grandchildren, Nealie Anne (Chris) Morgan, Clayton D. Godbee, Tommy Chambers, Emma Grace Chambers; several step-children; nieces, nephews and her devoted caretaker, Diane Childs.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Lois Hodges Folk Williams.
