At the time of his death he was survived by his wife Gertrude and three sons, William Gale Pheiffer and his wife Colleen of Princeville, Illinois, Don Pheiffer and his wife Terry of Wyoming, Illinois and Barry Pheiffer and his wife Cindy of Wyoming, Illinois as well as nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He had one sister Marie Delores Pheiffer Pease and two brothers Julius Eugene Pheiffer and Raymond Laverne Pheiffer.
William was employed at Maytag Manufacturing in Galesburg, Illinois for 30 years and retired in 1989. He also farmed in the Little York, Woodhull and Alexis areas.
He was a member of Countryside Bible Church in rural Gerlaw, Illinois, Masonic Lodge 479 in Wyoming, Illinois, Maple City Antique Tractor Association in Monmouth, Illinois and Silver Kings of Yesteryear Tractor Club of Plymouth, Ohio.
