BELIEVE PHYSICIAN ACCIDENTALLY KILLED
Norfolk, VA, May 18—Relatives today said they believed the shot which yesterday killed Dr. Joseph H. Lawrence at the home of a relative in Southampton County, was fired accidentally. He left the house earlier in the day to go fishing and in addition to the lines and poles carried a shot gun with which to kill some hawks. Circumstances indicate that the fishing tackle became entangled in a gate through which he passed and that in attempting to free it he accidentally discharged the gun, killing himself. Dr. Lawrence was a practicing physician at Pendleton, S. C., but recently had been visiting his old home in Southampton County. He is survived by his widow, who was Miss Mary Jones, of Roanoke, and several children. Dr. Lawrence was 56 years old.
