Dan Carlos Hamblin

KAYSVILLE--Dan C. Hamblin, age 70, Hercules retiree and 20-year resident of Kaysville, died early Saturday a.m., February 6, 1999, at a Layton care center. He had been in his home the previous 18 months.

Mr. Hamblin was born October 21, 1928, at Lyman, Wyoming, to LDS parents Claude and Ora Markham Hamblin. There he received most of his early education except for a brief period when his family moved to Willard, Utah, where he attended Box Elder High School. He returned to Lyman for his senior year and graduated with his previous classmates in 1947.

Later he moved with his parents and sister to Sandy, Utah. He worked with the railroad in Salt Lake City. In November 1950, he was called into the military service during the Korean conflict, stationed at Ft. Riley, KS, for the duration of his tour of duty. He received his final honorary discharge August 8, 1956.

On November 30, 1952, in Atchison, KS, he married Emma Jeanne Koehler of Atchison, the daughter of Anton and Grace Jack Koehler. They resided in Kansas City, MO, where he was employed as a welder with the Ford Motor Co. In September 1954, he brought his family to Utah and attended the University of Utah for five years.

In May 1959, he left his studies to enter employment with Hercules, Inc., Bacchus plant. He later transferred to the Clearfield Freeport Center where he was a missile inspector. He retired in July 1986 after 27 years of service with the company.

During his retirement, Dan enjoyed his grandchildren; was a frequent swimmer at the Clearfield pool. He enjoyed reading books and viewing movies and documentaries on American history, especially those of the old west, with the Mountain Men as his favorites.

Prior to moving to Kaysville, the family had resided in Salt Lake City, Murray, and South Jordan.

Mr. Hamblin is survived by his loving wife of 46 years; daughters, Janis (Dan) Hancock, and Amy (Mike) Montoya; granddaughters, Jessica and Rebekah Hancock; grandsons, Derrek, Travis and Brandon Montoya; brother, Paul Hamblin of Sandy; and sister, Dorothy Bitters of Kaysville.

It has been said that a man is not judged by how much he loves, but by how much he is loved. Dan proved an ever-faithful, never-yielding anchor to his family by whom he will be sorely missed.

Services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, February 10, 199, at Lindquist's Kaysville Mortuary, 400 North Main. Friends and family may call Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. and Wednesday from 12:45-1:45 p.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the American Diabetes Assn., Utah Chapter, 340 East 400 South, Salt Lake City.
