Chattanooga, Tenn. - ALVIN F. CANNON, 85, died late Saturday, October 21, 2006 at his home in Chattanooga, TN. He was a prominent business man in Chattanooga for 37 years working in real estate. He also served several Presbyterian area churches as a commissioned lay pastor. In his early years, he worked as a farmer and school teacher in West Tennessee. He graduated from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville in 1943 and earned a Master's degree there in 1948. Mr. Cannon was a member of the Pilgrim Congregational Church. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Francis Cashion Cannon. He also lost a son, Alvin F. Cannon Jr. in 1970. Mr. Cannon is survived by two sons, Tom Cannon Sr. of Chattanooga and Jim Cannon Sr. of Ooltewah; and one daughter, Anne Cannon Crais of Danville, VA. He leaves eight grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, October 29 at 2 p.m. at the Pilgrim Congregational Church at 400 Glenwood Drive in Chattanooga, TN, The Reverend Dr. Janice E. Mynchen and Diane W. Stocker, CLP, interim pastor at New Hope Presbyterian Church, will officiate. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
