Emily Nimmo Trant Burgwyn, a Newport News native, passed away on June 16, 2018 at the age of 88. Emily was born in Portsmouth, Virginia on October 22, 1929 to the late Catherine Butt Trant and James Parrish Trant. Emily was preceded in death by her brother, Bruce Shepard Trant.

She is survived by her brother, James Parrish Trant, Jr, her sister Catherine Sue Trant Hill and her children Collinson Pierrepont Edwards Burgwyn, Jr. (Kitty), Bartlett Roper Burgwyn (Vivian) and Nancy Burgwyn Mingee. Emily is survived by her two grandsons, Collinson Pierrepont Edwards Burgwyn, III (Bryce) and Bartlett Roper Burgwyn III (Meghan) and her great granddaughter Blakely Scout Burgwyn.

A service celebrating Emily's life will be held at 1:30 pm on Thursday, June 21, at Saint Stephens Episcopal Church at 372 Hiden Blvd. in Newport News. There will be a reception immediately following the service in the Parish Hall. A private internment will take place Olive Branch Cemetery in Portsmouth. Arrangements are in the care of Peninsula Funeral Home.
