Janice "Jan" M. Achterberg (nee Kent), age 76, passed away peacefully on Friday, Sept. 30, 2016 at the Samaritan in West Bend. She was born Feb. 4, 1940, in Eau Claire to Russell and Oriese (nee Morand) Kent. Janice graduated from Gladstone High in Michigan. She married the late Fred C. Achterberg on April 23, 1960, in Gladstone, Michigan. She attended Prospect Business College for accounting and was the executive secretary and owner (with her spouse) of De'Cor Inc. She was the past senior regent and recorder for the Women of the Moose and was a member since 1979. Janice loved music, reading and crafts. She truly enjoyed many years of camping and boating in the North Woods with Fred and family.
Janice is survived by her three children, Chloe (Jim) Wolf, Scott (Wendi Reisig) Achterberg and Kim (Jeff) Sauter, and eight grandchildren, Tanya (Jim) Roerick, Amanda, Kaitlyn and Alexis Wolf, Lindsey and Colin Sauter, and Travis and Hope Achterberg. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 50 years, Fred.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, Oct. 10, at the Phillip Funeral Home Chapel (1420 W. Paradise Drive, West Bend, WI 53095) with Deacon Mark Jansen presiding. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until the time of the service. Inurnment will be at Southeast Wisconsin Veterans Cemetery Union Grove.
