The following is the justification for correcting the Find a Grave for infant girl Hancuff.

On page 100 of the register of births in Jackson County, Kansas it showed a white baby girl Hancuff born on Sept 9, 1904 to be the second child of this mother. The mother's maiden name was Squires, age 23 and the father was William Squires, age 26, a farmer. The information was provided by Dr. J.B. Smith. There are presumably several errors here. The baby was a male and the father was William Hancuff, age 23. (not Laura Squires older brother William Squires.)

On page 59 of the register of deaths in Jackson County, Kansas it showed a white female infant to have died from anaemia after sixty days of life on Nov 9, 1904. Her father was T.W. (Thomas William) Hancuff of Holton, KS and the return was made by Dr. M.B. Smyth of Holton on Jan 11, 1905.

Although there is consistency between the doctors records identifying this child as a female, the recollection of relatives was that whenever Will and Laura went to the cemetery on Memorial day they always spoke of their two sons that died in infancy.

The hand copied record of the Holton Cemetery Association Registration Book showed William G. Handcuff was born on Sept 9, 1904 and died from catarrhal fever (old term for the group of respiratory tract diseases including the common cold, influenza, and lobular and lobar pneumonia) on Nov 9, 1904 and was buried in Sect 4 lot 7, Blk 108 grave 2 on Nov 10, 1904. Signed Dr. Smythe.

Also, the hand copied record of the Holton Cemetery Association Registration Book showed that William G. Hancuff buried in grave 18-7-108 died on November 9, 1904.
