Henry Cowles
Henry Eugene Cowles, 91, of Morning Sun, died Wednesday evening, May 22, 2002, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.
Born May 3, 1911, in Wapello, he was the son of Nelson Eugene and Anna Seitz Cowles. On March 25, 1933, he married Irene Martha Cowles in Rock Island, Ill. She died Sept. 22, 1973.
Mr. Cowles was a farmer. As of February, his farm is included as an Iowa Century Family Farm.
In his later years, he enjoyed working or creating in his shop. He was an avid supporter of fire and rescue personnel.
He enjoyed hunting. He was a member of the Izaak Walton League.
Survivors include two daughters, Betty Ball of Mediapolis and Doris Harris of Morning Sun; three sons, Warren Cowles of Northbrook, Ill., Nelson Cowles of Morning Sun and Robert Cowles of Wapello; 13 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Bertha Adams of Acton, Calif.; nieces, nephews and cousins; and a special friend, Melvine Graham of Burlington.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and three brothers, one in infancy.
Visitation will begin after noon Monday at Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral in Wapello, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
The funeral for Mr. Cowles will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home, with the Rev. Richard Shaw officiating. Burial will be in Wapello Cemetery.
Memorials have been established for Wapello Volunteer Fire Department, Wapello Rescue Unit and Wapello Community Ambulance Service.
