BILLY GRAY DIES

Succumbs After Long and Brave Battle Against Great Odds

Billy Gray has lost the long fight. Fighting, as he has always done, with a grim determination never to admit defeat, this man whose fight has been the wonder of Golden, finally lost, but lost without admitting defeat. Death came Tuesday morning at 3 o'clock. For many years, Billy Gray had been an invalid, and for the last two years has been practically confined to his bed . Many times his friends and his doctors have given up hope, limiting his life to a few short weeks, but neither Billy or his faithful fellow fighter would ever admit the possibility of defeat. Together Mr. and . Mrs. Gray have waged -the fight for Mr. Gray's health, first in Missouri, then in Golden and last summer, as a last resort, they spent in the open on Lookout mountain. They moved back to Golden a few months ago and have been living on Ford street.

William H. Gray was born in Grant City , Iowa, and since early youth has been a sufferer from asthma. When a small boy Mr. Gray moved to Foster, Mo . After his marriage at Foster he went to Excelsior Springs , Mo . to engage in business and to endeavor to regain his fading health at that health resort. Fourteen years ago Mr. and Mrs. Gray moved to Golden, where Mr. Gray was the proprietor of the Corner Barber shop. For a time his health was improved in Golden, but he was forced to sell his business two years ago . He several times endeavored to recuperate in Missouri, but always came back to Golden, where his health was the better. Mr. Gray is survived by his father, three brothers, and three sisters in Missouri and Iowa, and his widow. His always cheerful disposition and optimistic outlook on life, when it would seem blackest to the ordinary man, won for Mr. Gray, a legion of friends. The fearful struggle of the Grays against tremendous odds has been followed by practically everyone in Golden .

Funeral services will be held at the Methodist church Friday , conducted by Rev. Waller. Interment at Mount Olivet. Woods & Sanders are in charge of the funeral arrangements.
