Judith (“Judy”) Byrne Lancaster, 78, of Meadows Place, TX passed away peacefully in Sugar Land, TX on June 28th with her four children and many loving grandchildren at her side. Judy was born on November 21st, 1939 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Emmet Francis Byrne and Mary Margaret Farrell Byrne. Judy graduated from Trinity College in Washington, D.C. in 1961 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics. Her early professional career included roles with United Airlines and Brunswick Corporation. In 1966 she married Neville Lancaster, Sr., her beloved husband of 32 years, and soon after moved to Tokyo, Japan where she lived for four years before returning to Chicago and, ultimately, moving to Houston in 1973. Following 10 years as a homemaker, she earned a teaching certificate from the University of Houston in 1978 and began a 30-yr career as a teacher and tennis coach at Bellaire High School and later as an adult high school administrator at Houston Community College. Judy was also an active member of St. Theresa Catholic Church in Sugar Land, TX and a volunteer at the St. Vincent DePaul Society. In addition to being a committed and passionate educator, Judy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, friend and dog lover. She was an avid and accomplished bridge player who enjoyed the game and cherished the friendships she had with her fellow players. Her children and grandchildren were the center of her life and her greatest joy. She also enjoyed traveling, especially to visit siblings, children and her many friends. She was known as the “Yellow Rose of Texas” on the C.B. radio as she logged thousands of miles in her Oldsmobile station wagon on summer vacation visiting family and friends across the country. Judy is preceded in death by her husband Neville John Lancaster, Sr., her sister Barbara Byrne Brown, and her brother Thomas Farrell Byrne. She is survived by her children Karen Lancaster Stade and son in-law Richard Stade, Debbie Lancaster and fiancé Mike Harvey, Noreen Lancaster Weaver and son in-law Raymond Weaver, and Neville John Lancaster, Jr. and daughter in-law Whitney Lancaster, in addition to her 10 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, five siblings, and two beloved dogs. She will live forever in their hearts and be remembered fondly by all. A visitation will be held at The Settegast-Kopf Co. @ Sugar Creek from 5-8pm on Monday July 2nd, 2018. A funeral mass will be held at St Theresa Catholic Church located at 705 St. Theresa Blvd, Sugar Land Texas on Tuesday July 3rd at 11:00am.
