Victim of the Virginia Tech shootings:

It is known that she was the first person who was murdered that day. Emily, 19, lived on the same coed dorm floor as victim Ryan "Stack" Clark, 22, Resident Assistant. Ambler Johnson Hall was where the first shootings took place.

Emily was majoring in animal and poultry sciences; she was known around her hometown as an animal lover.

"She worked at a veterinarian's office and cared about them her whole life," said Rappahannock County Administrator John W. McCarthy, a family friend.

A friend, Will Nachless, also 19, said Emily "was always very friendly. Before I even knew her, I thought she was very outgoing, friendly and helpful, and she was great in chemistry."

Emily Jane Hilscher of Woodville, was one of the 32 victims who tragically lost her life on April 16, 2007 at Virginia Tech.

Emily Jane was a freshman at Virginia Tech studying animal science. She was an animal lover, skilled horsewoman, and an enthusiastic cook. Her free and imaginative spirit and innate talents led to the creation of a variety of artistic treasures that she shared with those whom she loved.

Found and Sons Funeral Chapel of Culpeper is handling the arrangements.
