James P. Alsover enrolled and mustered-in as Private, Co. A, 3rd California Infantry, at Stockton, California, October 4. 1861. At enlistment he was described as age 28 years, that he was born at Northampton County, Pennsylvania, and that his occupation was Butcher. He was promoted Corporal January 8, 1862. Corporal Alsover re-enlisted as a Veteran Volunteer at Camp Douglas, Utah Territory, August 24, 1864. He was promoted Sergeant October 5, 1864, and was discharged, with his Company, at Camp Douglas, Utah Territory, July 27, 1866.
