Dora was born in November 1929 to George and Myrtle Hansen. She passed away at the age of 88 in Nampa, Idaho on June 17, 2018 at Ashley Manor. The Family wishes to thank all the staff at Ashley Manor and Auburn Crest Hospice that lovingly cared for Dora, it gave great peace to the family at a difficult time in their lives.

Dora grew up on a farm with horses, cows, goats, chickens, ducks, and fields full of hay and onions. She loved her childhood and shared many funny stories about that time in her life. She had 11 brothers and sisters, She was the 3rd youngest. Dora has one sister Carolyn that is surviving out of the 11 kids.

Dora married Fred Porter in 1948 and they were married for 65 years before Fred died. She was the mother to 4 children: Barbara who is married to Ron, Joyce, Daniel who is married to Mary and Janet who is married to Jim.

Dora loved children and babies and she went on to have many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She has said many times that she wanted at least 10 children but wasn't blessed with them. She loved kids so much that shopping with her took so long because she had to stop at each child she saw in the store and talk to them and tell them how beautiful they were.

Dora worked as a manager and cook at several different schools for many years. She also served in many different callings in Primary and Young Women's (it was called Mutual then) in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she loved the children. She served in those callings until Fred had a stroke and she became a care giver for 15 years. Dora was an excellent cook, she was always taking food to someone in need and she did the same with her sewing. She gave of her talents very freely to others. She taught sewing in 4-H for several years. All of her sewing, until she died, was sown on a Treadle Sewing Machine. When she was young she had a pet cow named Betty. She taught it to let her ride it like a horse only bare back. She had a pet goat that ate the top of her dad’s car that was made of cloth. She had many cats and dogs and many funny stories to go along with them all. She was very musical. Anything she heard on the radio she could play on the piano. She never had any lessons. She could sing the alto to any song and she didn't read music. Both the piano and her singing were so beautiful. She woke up in the morning with a song on her mind every day until she passed away. Even when she couldn't speak she hummed the song. She loved to dance. She danced with some of the people who lived at Ashley Manor and some of the staff. She taught most of her kids how to dance so we could dance with our father at the Daddy Daughter Dinner. She taught all of her daughters how to walk in her high heels up and down the hallway at home with a book on our head so we could be graceful.
There wasn't anyone like Dora, she was always in your face and in your business and expressed her opinions freely. She will be missed and was so dearly loved.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 6, at Zeyer Funeral Chapel, 83 N Midland Blvd, Nampa with a viewing from 10 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the services. Burial at Kohlerlawn Cemetery in Nampa, ID.
