Lawrence E "L. E." LeMonte is a mystery, and much more research is needed (if records exist). He may have been born as Thomas McGee in Philadelphia, PA April/May 1850 to John McGee and wife Jane McMeekin. Descendents of this McGee family say that Thomas McGee got into trouble as a teenager and was sent to Reform School in Philadelphia. (A 19yo Thomas W. McGee can be found in House of Refuge Reform School in Philadelphia in the 1870 census.) He escaped from the school and changed his name to Lawrence Eugene LeMonte and became a constable in Uhrichsville, Ohio.
