Alexander G "Alex" Graves was born on March 22, 1889 in Westmoreland, Tennessee, the son of John Franklin Graves (1870-1943) and Melissa "Victoria" (Denning) Graves (1870-1958).

He attended schools in Westmoreland and in Nashville, and he was married on July 14, 1928 in Nashville to Elsie Reeves (1909-1944) the daughter of Marcus Watson "Mark" Reeves (1881–1975) and his 1st wife Maggie Cordelia (Grant) Reeves (1887–1917).

A necktie salesman living at 4900 Cypress Drive in Nashville, Alex was 68 years old and a widower when he died of a coronary occlusion on December 2, 1957 at Madison Sanitarium & Hospital after a lone illness.

Survivors included his mother and sisters Mrs E C Marlin and Mrs Edna Greehalge.

Funeral Services were held on December 3rd, and burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery, Nashville.
