Stephen served as a Sergeant & Gunner on F-7A "Under Exposed" #42-73052, 20th Combat Mapping Squadron, 6th Photographic Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Orleans Parish, Louisiana prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on February 11, 1943 in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a pattern and model maker and also as Married.

F-7A #42-73052 took off, with a crew of 11 and 2 other F-7As, from Nadzab Airfield, Morobe Province, Papua New Guinea on a combat mapping mission over Padaidori Island Group, Biak, Numfor Regency, Papua Province, Indonesia.

Shortly after takeoff they crashed, for an unknown reason, into Mount Wilhelm, Chimbu Province, Papua New Guinea. The entire crew was lost in this crash.

Stephen was "Killed In Action" in this crash during the war.

He was awarded the Purple Heart.
