John Wesley "Papaw" Boykin, Sr

John Wesley Boykin, Sr, or Papaw or Pops, as he was known to all that knew and loved him, was born in Meridian on December 11, 1960 to John and Betty Boykin. He passed away on June 20, 2018 at his home, surrounded and comforted by his loving family and friends after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He had a great love for his family, extended family, bonus grandchildren, special friends, his Harley and the MC, sitting on the store bench with “his girls”, Angie and Hannah, and going out of his way to make others happy or bring a smile to someone’s day with his silliness. Nothing made him happier than spending time with those he loved. “Papaw” touched so many lives with his kindness, love, giving spirit and the pride he had in his children and grandchildren. His favorite saying was “All my favorite people call me Papaw”. He was “Papaw” to so many, both young and old.

Papaw will be lovingly remembered by his children, Jay (Erika) Boykin, Margaret (Trent) Workman, Shana (Nathan) Rust, Zachary (Amanda) Walker, and “Lil” Kat (Joey) Smith; his sister, Dell (David) Smith; his high school sweetheart, Shelia; his many adored grandchildren, Jaycob, Chance “Peanut”, Raylee, Ashton, Garrett, Dusty, Jayda, Brylee, Olivia, Zayne, Sookie, Harley and Gage. Also left to cherish his memory are his special extended family – Scott and Cindy Alexander, Daniel and Lori Lundy, Train and Kimberly Edwards, Bubba and Kristen Eakes, Mikie and Dana Chaney, Chris and Robin Cullum, Travis and Jessica McKee and Jason Shelby, as well as the bonus grandchildren he adored and so many others that he loved so much.

Per his wishes, in lieu of a traditional service, the family will be having a celebration of his life on Saturday, June 23, 2018, at 6:00 p.m. at his home in the Meehan Community. Family and friends are welcome to join us as we remember and honor his life and love. For information or directions, please contact Erika Boykin at (601)481-4261 or (601)655-8827.

A memorial ride will be announced at a later time as details are determined.
