BATH -- Marie Carson Ahern, a former teacher and mother of six, died on May 16, 2008, in Bath.
She was born in Noank, Conn., on June 7, 1918, the daughter of Duncan and Jennie Jonsson Carson. She was a graduate of Robert Fitch High School, New London, Conn., and of the University of New Hampshire, class of 1940. She married Robert P. Ahern in Noank on April 20, 1942.
When she wasn't taking time away to raise her children, Mrs. Ahern taught English and French at Charlemont (Mass.) High School, North Berwick High School, and Wells High School from which she retired in 1976.
Mrs. Ahern was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Church, Brunswick, as well as an active member in the Kennebunk and Brunswick Senior Centers. She loved playing bridge, embroidery, reading, painting and playing the piano. Above all, she loved her children and grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband in 1975; a son, Robert P. Ahern Jr.; and a brother, Duncan Carson. She is survived by a son Thomas and his wife Susan of Holliston, Mass., four daughters, Karen Boeschenstein and her husband Warren of Charlottesville, Va., Jane Mangan and her husband George of Exeter, N.H., Judy Salsich and her husband James of Natick, Mass., and Susan Reinheimer and her husband David of Bowdoinham; four grandsons, James Salsich of Boston, Mass., Erich Reinheimer of Queen Creek, Ariz., Robert Reinheimer of Boston, Mass., and Thomas Ahern of Holliston, Mass.; seven granddaughters, Anna Boeschenstein of Aspen, Colo., Eleanor Boeschenstein of Brooklyn, N.Y., Eliza Dubois and her husband Gregory of Greenland, N.H., Mairead Salsich of Arlington, Va., Deirdre Salsich and Annie Salsich of New York City, and Shelby Ahern of Washington, D.C.; and one great-grandson, Jackson DuBois, of Greenland, N.H.
Friends may visit 6-8 p.m. Monday, May 19, 2008, at the Brackett Funeral Home, 29 Federal St., Brunswick. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 9:30 a.m., Tuesday, at St. Charles Borromeo Church, McKeen Street, Brunswick.
