James L. “Jim” Boonie, 82, of 3459 Charter Oak Road, Petersburg, Barree Township, died at 11:34 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, 2018, at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh.

Born Jan. 24, 1936, in Neffs Mills, at his family home, he was the son of the late Charles Sr. and Irene (Warefield) Boonie. He was united in marriage to the former Anna Mae Moyer May 30, 1959, in Huntingdon. Mrs. Boonie preceded him in death Sept. 23, 2011.

Mr. Boonie is survived by a son, Jefferson Paul Boonie and wife, Helenmarie, of Petersburg.

He is also survived by a brother, David and wife, Linda, of Millheim; and two sisters, Maxine Deihl of Westminster Woods, Huntingdon, and Dorothy “Jean” Barrett of Johnstown.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Lightner; an infant brother, Paul Boonie; and brothers, Wesley, Carmon, Glenn, Wayne and Charles Jr.

Mr. Boonie was a very active member of Faith United Methodist Church, Manor Hill, and served in many capacities, not limited to being a longtime member of the choir.

He served in the United States Air Force as an Airman First Class from Jan. 17, 1955, until his honorable discharge Jan. 16, 1959, with two years of foreign service during the time following the Korean War. Mr. Boonie then joined the Pennsylvania National Guard and served with them for the next 16 years and retired with over 20 years of military service.

Mr. Boonie was a 1946 graduate of Alexandria High School.

He retired after working for 40 years as a driver/mechanic for Centre Concrete.

Mr. Boonie enjoyed doing maintenance and snow removal. However, one of his favorite things was his weekly trip to Belleville for breakfast and sale day and visiting with family and friends. Mr. Boonie was a lifetime resident of Huntingdon County and had lived at his Charter Oak home since 1990. He had lived in the immediate area prior to that time.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 15, at Faith United Methodist Church, Manor Hill, with Randy Wright, pastor, officiating. Interment will be made in Mooresville Cemetery, West Township.

Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Monday, May 14, at the Cutright Funeral Homes — Juniata Valley Chapel, 412 Main St., Alexandria, and from 10-11 a.m. Tuesday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Mr. Boonie may be made to Faith United Methodist Church, 8932 Greenwood Road, Petersburg, PA 16669.
