....."Colonel Samuel Ware was married twice. his first wife, Mary Thompson, died in 1797.
.
HIS SECOND WIFE, WAS MARY GILLILAND. She survived her distinguished husband for more than twenty years, and according to descriptions left by her grandchildren, was a pretty, vivacious woman, fond of gaity and the center of an interesting group. Colonel Wear died April 3, 1817.
.
As a Captain at King's Mountain, a Colonel in the War of 1812, and an important man in the community from every point of view, his widow had a station to maintain and she seems to have enjoyed maintaining it. Colonel Wear did not apply for a pension, nor did his widow. his means and hers, following his death, were ample. She lived until som time in the early forties, the exact date of her death not being known.

She had four children, namely:
Diana Wear. Pleasant M. Wear. Margaret Wear, and Minerva Wear.

VII. DIANA WEAR.
Diana, probably the eldest child of Colonel Samuel Wear and Mary Gilliland Wear, married David Johnson, who went to Missouri before 1840, being the first of the family to go there. He built and established the first Dry Goods store in Springfield, Missouri.

VIII. PLEASANT WEAR.
Pleasant M. Wear, son of Colonel Samuel Wear, was born October 12th, 1802, in Seiver County, Tennessee. Pleasant M. Wear was Clerk of the Circuit Court of Seiver County from 1828 to 1838. He then served as a Major in the Seminole War in Florida. Someime in 1840 he removed with his family and slaves to Missouri where for many years he was Clerk of Court for Lawrence County, Missouri. He died in Mount Vernon, Lawrence County Missouri, January 7th, 1870. He married, before leaving Tennessee, Tryphena Tipton, daughter of Colonel John Tipton ..."

IX. MARGARET WEAR.
Margaret Wear, daughter of Colonel Samuel Wear and his second wife, Mary Gilliland, married the Reverend D.B. Cumming, who was sent as one of the first missionaries to the Indians after their removal to Indian Territory. They had at least one child, Colonel Pleasant Wear Cummings, who commanded the 10th Missouri Infantry, C.S.A., and participated in the battle of the 10th Missouri Infantry, C.S.A., and participated in the battle of Pririe Grove, in Arkansas. Dec. 7th, 1862, Pleasant Mill, Lousiana, April 9th, 1864, and Jenkins Ferry Arkansas, April 30th, 1864.

X. MINERVA WEAR.
Minerva Wear, the youngest child of Colonel Samuel Wear and his wife, Mary Gilliand Wear, was born in Seiver County, Tennessee, October 20, 1807. She married John Guthrie, March 29, 1825. John Guthrie was born in Scotland and came from Richmond to Seiver County. He owned the Sweden Furnace. He built the first newspaper mill in the South. He owned Holston Paper Mill, the Bright-Hope Furnace near Greenville, and Middlebrook Paper Mill at Knoxville. John Guthrie, at the reorganization of the University of Tennessee, was a member of the first Board of Trustees.
Minerva [Wear] Guthrie died June 4, 1844. John Guthrie died also in Columbia, September, 1844."
