Son of Amos Jackson Ayers (1855 - 1939) and Mariah Caroline Utt (1859 - 1937).

Married Lucy Lillian Hardy on 4 April 1931 In Hillsville, Carroll County, Virginia. The couple did not have any children.

Entered service as a Private with the U.S. Army on 25July 1917 and was separated 14 April 1919. He served with Company I, 1st N.C. Infantry and Company D, 105th Supply Train. He served abroad in France during World War I.

Interred 21 June 1978 at age 84.
