Gretna……James Edward Dalton, age 80 of Gretna, died Saturday, June 16, 2018 at his residence.
Born May 9, 1938 in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of the late Lathan Owen Dalton and Annie Worley Dalton. He was also predeceased by seven brothers, Gordon Dalton, Sam Henry Dalton, Curtis Dalton, Owen Dalton, Jr., Diamon Dalton, Lathan Dalton and Charlie Dalton; and one sister, Nannie Bohon. Mr. Dalton was a member at Hurt United Methodist Church and was a retired pipe fitter. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, working on cars and gardening. James loved to travel around visiting and spending time with his dog, “John.”
He is survived by his wife, Joan Moore Dalton of the residence; one son, Michael Dalton and wife, Heather of Gretna; one daughter, Angela Thomas and husband, William of Gretna; three brothers, George Dalton and wife, Peggy of Gretna, Willie Dalton and wife, Bonnie of Harmony, NC and Bernard Dalton and wife, Linda of Gretna; one sister, Carrie Lilly of Gretna; four grandchildren, Christopher Thomas and wife, Tiffany, Shawn Thomas, Cole Dalton and Samantha Dalton; and one great-grandson, Aiden Thomas.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at Colbert-Moran Chapel by Rev. Bobby Brumfield. Burial will follow at Altavista Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence.
