She was a daughter of Dr. James Henry Coffin L. L. D., the famous meteorologist, and Aurelia M. Jennings. She was married to the Rev. Dr. John Cunningham Clyde D. D. who wrote "A tale of the Revolution", published in 1880. Martha was a sixth generation descendant of Tristram Coffyn and Dionis Stevens of Nantucket, Massachusetts.
