VENTURA, IA - Gordon F. Boehnke, 81 passed away Wednesday, June 13, 2018 in Mesa, Arizona after a brief illness.
Gordon Fredrick Boehnke, the son of Theodore and Marie (Hinrichs) Boehnke was born December 23, 1936 in Ventura, Iowa. Gordon was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Garner and he graduated from Ventura Community School in 1955.
Upon graduation Gordon went into the Army and served in SE Asia, Philippines, and Hawaii from 1959 – 1961.
In December 1961, Gordon married his wife of nearly 57 years, Sally Lee, from Clear Lake. Gordon grew up on the farm and lived there with Sally and their 2 boys, where he continued to farm it most of his life. In 2004 Gordon & Sally moved to Mesa, AZ.
Gordon also worked for a while at the Barrel Drive-in, Lifetime Motor Homes in Mason City, and Mason City Bi Products, but his passion was farming. Gordon enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, stock car races, and he and Sally were house parents for several years for the North Iowa Huskies hockey team.
Gordon is survived and dearly remembered by his wife, Sally; his sons Terry (Teresa) Boehnke, Chandler, AZ and Phillip (Carole) Boehnke of Ventura. Three Grandchildren, Jessica (Robert) Anderson, Colona, IL, James Boehnke, Blooming Prairie, MN, Theodore (Shanda) Boehnke, Dumont, IA; eight great grandchildren, A sister, Lois Kotz of Clear Lake, and a niece and two nephews.
Gordon was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Viola Kelk.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
