Barbara graduated from Martinsville High School with the class of 1946 and was a former member of the Eastern Star, where she had held all offices over the years, with the exception of treasurer.
On November 26, 1947 she married William E. Hess; he preceded her in death on November 6, 2001. Barbara and William “Bill” were co-owners of the Morgan House in Martinsville for 32 years. During that time, Barbara worked in the office as bookkeeper and secretary. Prior to the Morgan House, she worked for seven years in the savings department at First National Bank in Martinsville.
She leaves behind her only son, Richard “Rick” and his wife, Kirsten, Hess of Martinsville; grandsons, Tobias and Brad (wife, Jessica) Hess both of Martinsville and two great grandchildren, Bradly and Jacynda Hess.
Barbara was laid to rest in Nebo Memorial Park Cemetery in Martinsville following a private funeral service.
