Douglas James Agnew, 59, of Harveys Lake, passed away Sunday, Jan. 1, 2017, in Wilkes-Barre General Hopsital.

Doug was born in Wilkes-Barre on June 27, 1957, and was the son of Betty Jane Naugle Agnew Remley, Pikes Creek, and the late Albert Edward Agnew.

Douglas graduated from Lake-Lehman High School in 1975 and attended LCCC and Mansfield University. In 1972 he won the 115-lb Division in the Junior Olympics preliminaries at Hughesville. He was an outstanding wrestler for Lake-Lehman from 1973 to 1975. His accomplishments on the mat included district champ in 1974 and 1975, Northeast Regional champ in 1975, and a fourth place finish in states, 1974. During his career he was also awarded the Outstanding Wrestler.

Douglas was a member of the Maple Grove United Methodist Church, Harveys Lake Yacht Club and the Harveys Lake American Legion, Post 967.

When he wasn't working, Doug and his wife could usually be found out at the lake, hanging out on the boat or at the dock of his best friend, Mike. He felt especially blessed to be loved by so many friends who were there for him through everything.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his brother, Rick Agnew, and sister, Carol Davis.

In addition to his mother, Betty Remley, Douglas is survived by his wife, the former Tracy Tomkins; sons, Jordan Agnew, Harveys Lake; and Jake Agnew, Lehman; stepsons, Mark Kapitula and his wife, Colleen, Sweet Valley; and Matthew Kapitula and his girlfriend, Tommie, Dallas; brothers, Carl Remley, New Hampshire; Robert Agnew, Pikes Creek; and David Remley, Wyoming; sister, Denise Moyer, Lititz; and grandson, Hunter.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Maple Grove United Methodist Church, 5876 Main Road, Hunlock Creek, with the Rev. Jim Pall, pastor, officiating.

Arrangements are by Curtis L. Swanson Funeral Home Inc., Routes 29 and 118, Pikes Creek.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to AstraZeneca Hope Lodge, 110 W. Laurel Ave., Cheltenham, PA 19012.
