Robert Joseph McHugh, 87, died May 25, 2018. Robert was a devoted family man, a talented craftsman, and an excellent storyteller.
He was employed by DuPont Company for 41 years as a chemical engineer. He invented a patented process for fusing O-rings. He was a devoted community leader including roles at St. Mary Magdalen church and school, Cub Scout Leader and Delaware Feis chairperson for many years. What brought him the most joy was being involved in his grandchildren's lives.
Robert was predeceased by his parents, James and Gail; his brothers, James ("Sonny"), Thomas, and William; and his sister Doris. He is survived by his wife Joan; his four children, Robert (Lorena), Sheila O'Connell (Patrick), John (Adela), and Tara Boyce (John); his daughter-in-law, Gigie McHugh; his grandchildren, Nicole (David), Christian, Connell, Madden, Maura, Aislinn, Aidan, Erin, Patrick, Anna, Silvia, Laura and Jorge; and his sister Sue Hotchkiss.
Interment will follow at St. Agnes Cemetery in West Chester. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Fund for Salesianum School (http://salesianum.org/giving).
