James Samuel Winters, Sr., more affectionately known as “Boy”, was born on April 24, 1939 to the late Joseph and Elizabeth Spears Winters of Mechanicsville, Maryland.

Jesus called “Boy” to his heavenly home on Sunday, February 21, 2016 at approximately 7:50 in the evening while a patient at the St. Mary’s County Hospice House in Callaway, Maryland, surrounded by his loving and supportive family.

“Boy” has always been called James by his loving and devoted wife of 50 years, Mary Annie Dorsey Winters. In this union there are two children, Debra Winters Berry (Michael) of Lexington Park, Maryland and James Winters, Jr. of Columbia, Maryland.

“Boy” earned his early education through the St. Mary’s County School System and worked various jobs during his lifetime. His greatest accomplishment was that of becoming a very well known “Hardwood Floor Finisher and Restorer” under the early leadership of his mentor, the late James Handy.

“Boy” enjoyed entertaining; especially playing cards, shucking oysters, playing his lottery numbers and offering sodas and ice cream to his nieces and nephews; and don’t forget keeping the road hot in his “too clean truck”.

Along with his parents, “Boy” was predeceased in death by his sisters, Agnes Jordan, Loretta Medley and Barbara Ann Winters and brothers, Joseph “Brother” Winters, Jr. and Edward “Papa” Winters.

“Boy” leaves to cherish his memory his two children, Debra and James, Jr.; five grandchildren, Troy Berry, Sharee Winters, Tremaine Berry, Jaquan Winters and Jala Winters; four great grandchildren, Arvonda Berry, Kyree Jean-Philippe, Zoe Jean-Phillippe and Zaiden Berry; his sisters, Wilma Estep (Lawrence), Gladys Estep and Yvonne Robinson (James); step-sister, Jackie Dotson; brother, Carroll Winters and brother, Joseph “Zip” Douglas and step-brother, Joseph “Puff” Dorsey; sisters-in-law, Alice Winters, Doris Lane, Rosette Barnes (William) and Rodena Dorsey; brothers-in-law, Charles Dorsey (Gaye), Harry Dorsey and Thomas Dorsey, as well as a long line and host of nieces, nephews, cousins and very close friends.

Pallbearers will be William Winters, Joseph Medley, Dale Jordan, Kevin Winters, Julius “Jay” Estep and Wayne Estep. Honorary Pallbearers will be Joe Meredith, George Holt, Frances Winters, Joseph Short, James Robinson, III, Neil Shade, Danny Ball, Alvin “Buddy” Jordan and Marcus Estep.

Family and friends will unite on Saturday, February 27, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 29119 Point Lookout Road, Morganza, MD 20660. Interment following at Charles Memorial Gardens, Leonardtown, MD.
