BRECKINRIDGE HERALD NEWS OBITUARY – 1974
James M. Mattingly, Cloverport, died at Breckinridge Memorial Hospital Thursday afternoon, April 11, [1974] following a lengthy illness. He was 65 years old. Mr. Mattingly was born in Owensboro on December 11, 1908, son of the late Clarence & Cornelia Beavin Mattingly. Mr. Mattingly, a member of St. Rose Catholic Church, was a former magistrate of the Second District and was influential in getting the bond issue passed for the building of the Breckinridge Memorial Hospital. He was a retired Cloverport merchant. Survivors include his wife, Eula Jane Mattingly, Cloverport; a daughter, Mrs. Charles (Doris Jean) O'Reilly, Cloverport; a son, James D. Mattingly, Rt. 3, Hardinsburg; two sisters, Mrs. Sam (Beatrice) Bland, Cloverport, and Mrs. Helen Payne, Clarkson; one brother, Herman Mattingly, Star Route, Cloverport, and five grandchildren. Services were held Monday morning, April 15, at the St. Rose Catholic Church in Cloverport with the Rev. W. M. Borntraeger, pastor of the church, officiating. Burial was in the Cloverport Cemetery under the direction of Dhonau Funeral Home. Rosary was recited at the funeral home on Easter Sunday afternoon.
