John Lee Yaryan was a son of of John Leander Yaryan and his 1st wife Clarissa Ward. In the Civil War he served in Company G, 19th Indiana Infantry Regiment in the rank of captain.
In a General Affidavit a person said he was in the US Navy from January 14, 1864 to September 1, 1864.
He married 1st on January 4, 1866, in Davidson County, Tennessee, to Mary Frances Rains, whom he had almost certainly met while he was stationed in Nashville as part of the occupation force. They had 1 daughter.
He married 2nd to Jennie McCarthy on May 28, 1874, in Wayne County, Indiana. She had previously married Abe Bennett. She was born about 1850 in Indiana and died December 23, 1917.
