Martha Patsey McDaniel was the sixth known child of Henry McDaniel, Sr. (1735-1819) and his first wife Mary Ann Porter. She is believed to have been born in 1772 based on her 1850 Census record of Morgan County, KY, when she was recorded as a 78 year old widow, i.e., born 1771 or 1772, and from her husband's military pension records when she was recorded as being "about 84 years old" on April 20, 1855. i.e., born 1770 or 1771. As well as her initial application for a military pension based on her deceased husband's military service on July 6, 1839, when "Patsey Cooper, the widow of John Cooper, was allowed pension on her application" where her age was estimated to be 66 years old at that time, i.e., born in either 1772 or 1773.

It is known for a fact that she was born in Pittsylvania County, Virginia, as her father, Henry McDaniel, Sr., was recorded a number of times as a resident of Pittsylvania County, Virginia, between 1769 and 1773, i.e., the time when Martha Patsey McDaniel was born.

She was married on April 20, 1789, to a Revolutionary War soldier, in what was then Greenbrier County, Virginia, and is today Monroe County, West Virginia.

The burial place for John Cooper - and his wife Martha Patsey McDaniel-Cooper - was written on page 1 of the 1997 book "Descendants of John Cooper" "Pvt. Virginia Militia REVOLUTIONARY WAR 1759-1837" which was published in July 1997 by the Magoffin County (KY) Historical Society of Salyersville, Kentucky, as the "Buffalo Christian Churchyard".
