William “Bill” McCarty, the son of William Sr. and Lula (Hasty) McCarty, was born August 27, 1937 at Lake City, Iowa and departed this life May 31, 2018 at St. Anthony’s Regional Hospital in Carroll, Iowa. He lived his life to the age of 80 years, 9 months and 4 days.

Bill attended and graduated from Lohrville High School in 1956. He was raised on a farm west of Lohrville.

On September 22, 1957, Bill was united in marriage to Karen Williams at the First Baptist Church in Lake City. Two sons and three daughters were born to this union. Bill and Karen made their home on the family farm near Lohrville where they raised their family. Bill and Karen were always working side by side thru all 60 years of marriage Bill farmed and operated a truck line. Bill and Karen moved to California where they were property managers together for manufactured homes communities. They lived in California for 32 years. They retired and moved to Jefferson, Iowa

Bill was a member of the Lake City First Baptist Church until its closing. He was also a member of the American Angus Association and the Midnighters Car Club. Bill was president of the manufactured home of California for several years.
Bill enjoyed farming which was his passion he always said he was an old sod buster from Iowa. If you knew Bill at all, you know he loved to talk and Bullshit with everyone, the stories he could tell! I would bet everyone here can tell a story that Bill had told them. While he was property manager, he knew and talked to everyone in the communities, he loved people.

Bill loved tractors, semis and antique car. He owned a Model A Ford, a 57 Chevy and a collection of tractors.

Bill loved his family. And he always loved kids around him and all their friends you never knew how many people would be at the house.

Those who were left to mourn his passing are his wife, Karen, children: Tammy (Steve), Billy and his partner, Rick and Dianne. Also, Debbie (Denny) and Tim, siblings of Karen’s who lived with us and were an important part of our family. Eleven grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Those who preceded him in death were his parents, a son, Stevie, a daughter, Joanne McCullough, great-granddaughter, Emily Jean McCullough, three brothers; Vaughn, Armour and Merle McCarty and three sisters; Virginia DeLong, Marilyn Owen and Ruth McCarty.

Funeral services were held for Bill at 11:00 A.M., Monday, June 4, 2018 from the Brown Funeral Home in Jefferson with Rev. Bob McKnight officiating. Burial was made in the Lake City Cemetery.
