Born August 1, 1941 at Crawfordsville, he was the son of John and Lois Maxwell VanCleave. He attended school in Alamo, Indiana and later worked for his father in the tractor and auto parts business. He worked for Traction Auto but had mostly been self-employed.
He enjoyed fishing, working on cars and tractors and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Jean (Daniels) VanCleave. They recently celebrated 50 years of marriage.
Also surviving are sons David Wayne (Melissa) VanCleave, Tom (fiancée Suzan) VanCleave, Mike (girlfriend Robin) VanCleave, Donald VanCleave, John (Kim) VanCleave and Joshua (Brittany) VanCleave all of Crawfordsville; sister Magaret (Billy) Estep; grandchildren Korey, Destiny, Heaven, Destiny, Aubrie, Trenton, Trevor, Brittany, Perry, Kristifer, Tacie and Tyler; great-grandchildren Bryleigh, Ethan, Olivia and Addison.
Preceding him in death are sisters Betty, Mary, Nancy and Judy.
A funeral service for Mr. VanCleave will be 1:00 PM Saturday, June 9th led by Pastor Nathan Miller at Grace & Mercy Ministries on Oak Hill Road in Crawfordsville. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM Saturday until the time of service.
