Cora was the daugther of John W. Batson & Rachael Rae Stottlemyre. She married John William Manley, son of Charles Roswell Manley & Nancy Ann York, on September 18, 1889 in Arkansas. To this union, a son, Lonzo "Lonnie" was born the following year in 1890. Just 3 years after their marriage, John William Manley died, leaving Cora to care for their two year son, Lonnie, alone. Cora did so for 8 long years being a single Mother of little Lonnie. She managed with the help from her parents and working in a local hotel doing Laundry and working at a local farm after the Hotel job, doing work at the farm pulling weeds and other odd jobs for the farmer and his wife. In 1901, she met and married A. Dewayne Vrendenburg. To this union, 3 children were born. Clarence, Gilbert and Rosalind. Once again, Cora found herself a Widow, with now 4 children to raise alone. Years passed by with Cora working hard to care for her children. Lonnie, her first born son, moved his family to California during the "Depression" to find work, bring his Mother Cora, as well and his siblings. They moved to Fresno California. All worked hard to keep food and clothing on the children. In 1938, her son, Lonnie died, being known as the 1st case in Fresno to died from Rabies. Cora and Lonnie's siblings were left alone once more to try to make ends meat. Cora being a strong women and for the love of her children, do so once again for many years. Then Cora married a 3rd time, to Jerry May Phelan. Cora was left a widow once again until her death in 1970.
