Charles Elmer Packett, Sr.
Mr. Charles Elmer Packett, Sr., age 81 of Marion, passed away on Friday, July 18, 2003 at his residence.
Born in McDowell County on January 3, 1922, he was the son of the late Johnny Packett and Carrie Webb Packett.
He was a retired business owner. He also was a decorated U. S. Army veteran having served in the Normandy invasion during World War II. Mr. Packett was a member of Grace Baptist Church.
Mr. Packett is survived by his wife, Dorothy Bost Packett of the home; three sons, Charles Packett and his wife Janie of Marion, Keith Packett & his wife Kim of Marion and Tim Packett & his wife Yiota of Navarre, Florida; one daughter, Sharon Nodine and her husband Ronnie of Old Fort; two brothers, Wilbern Packett of Annadale, VA and Gilbert Packett of Marion; eleven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
Services were held on Sunday, July 20, 2003 at 3:00 PM at Grace Baptist Church. The Rev. Gary Webb officiated. The family received friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
Interment was at Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials should be made to Hospice of McDowell County 218 Logan St. Marion, NC 28752 or Grace Baptist Church 930 Shady Lane Marion, NC 28752. Westmoreland Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
