IN 1918 WHILE "ON THE FRONT" (WW I?) HE WAS BADLY GASSED, AND SPENT MORE THAN 15 DAYS IN THE HOSPITAL. EVIDENTLY HE WAS A SOLDIER IN WW I. HE HAS A MILITARY STONE HERE.
Children's birth records record his wife's name as Dannie MAYO Bartley. She and Walter Quitman Eckert had the following children:
Mary Jo, Travis, Dannie Fay, Ralph Vernon, Emzie Eugene, and Walter Quitman, JR.
Census records really goofed his name up as "Zuellman" but close inspection of the original shows Quitman. Census taker just didn't cross the "t" in his name.
Found on the Rootsweb site, Wilkes Funeral Home Listing by Paul Smith. Walter's initial is T. on the funeral home record, and Walter W. on Lillie's obituary. His occupation was listed as Painter on the funeral home record.
